THEATRE OF WILL
Presents

LENNY'S BACK
by Sam Bobrick & Julie Stein

At the American Renegade Theatre in North Hollywood

The Play Lenny Bruce, the persecuted comedian who died in 1966 of a drug overdose at the age of 40, is pissed off over the fact that he, the hippest guy in the world, is buried in the desolate San Fernando Valley where hardly anyone comes to visit him. In this one-man show, starring Barry Pearl, Lenny takes us on a roller coaster ride that reveals many new facets about the famed comedian, some hilarious, some poignant.

Authors Sam Bobrick and Julie Stein have written together for a number of years. Mr. Bobrick has written and co-written plays which have been performed in the U.S. and abroad in over thirty countries. He is an Emmy-nominated writer and has won three Writers Guild awards for his television work. Julie Stein began performing stand-up comedy in college, which led her to Los Angeles and a job as an NBC Page. She has worked as research director for documentary programs and reality-based television shows. In November, Phyllis Diller will star in "Dear Sheldon," a play Bobrick and Stein wrote based on their book "Sheldon & Mrs. Levine."

Director Sam Bobrick has directed many of his own plays in regional theatre across the United States and Canada. He is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers as well as the Dramatists Guild.

Cast Barry Pearl began his professional career at the age of 11 in the Broadway musical, Bye Bye Birdie. He has extensive stage credits, both Broadway and regional, including Oliver!, Grease, Guys and Dolls, 42nd Street, Arsenic and Old Lace, Dames at Sea, The Odd Couple, and That Other Womans Child for which he won a Drama-Logue award. He has made dozens of guest appearances on television programs including E.R., Murder She Wrote, Major Dad, Barney Miller, The Tracey Ullman Show, and Baywatch Nights. Film credits include My Favorite Martian, Avenging Angel, and Dutch Treat. Of course, his all-time favorite film is the Paramount super hit Grease in which he costarred as "Doody".
